Do you have Diabetes?!

Diabetes, A dreaded lifestyle disease. For others it's a life threatening problem, for some it's a life changing aspect of their lives, but for me, I tell my patients to be proud because you have diabetes. Some of my patients laugh about that idea, but in the end, they say yes I'm a diabetic and I'm proud of it! Everything has a purpose, am I right? God has a purpose for every moments in our lives. If ever I encounter my patients,  I always impart to them not to think about diabetes as a problem but a God given challenge in order for them to attain self realization that diabetes is a very simple and  manageable disease.

Be proud to be a diabetic because your life is being shifted from unhealthy life style to healthy life style.  You're an advocate of healthy living for your family especially your children or grand children for them not to have diabetes in the future. You will instill to their minds to live healthy and teach them to become active in sports and not waisting their time playing computer games, that's how we can break the cycle of diabetes in your family.

Empowering people with diabetes to modify their life style, that's a powerful tool in the management of diabetes. I counseled a patient a while ago and she started crying. She was so depressed because she was a newly diagnosed with diabetes type 2. I told her, welcome to the club and she laughed.  She was thinking on where she can have the money for her medicines and check ups. That's the sad thing about diabetes, i'ts an expensive disease! but here is my tip for you to lower your expenses for your drugs, exercise 30 minutes a day and have a healthy balance plate. That's why for people with diabetes money is a big problem. But let me tell you this, every problem weather it's small or a big problem, that problem has a solution. God gave you a problem that has a solution and He is using people to help you solve your problem. This people are your friends, relatives, parents, etc., and they tell you to stop smoking, exercise, stop eating high caloric foods, stop drinking alcohol, etc. God made a move on your life  and what did you do? God is the solution and God is there for you.

Now if you have diabetes, GET MOTIVATED and BE EMPOWERED by it.

BY: PAUL RYAN S. OAPER
BATCH OCTOBER 2009

ADOBONG ULAM NA KAY SARAP-SARAP KAININ
AT KRISPY PATANG TIYAK NA UULIT-ULITIN
LECHON, ICE CREAM, AT KARE-KARENG NAKAHAIN
MAYA MAYA LAMANG ITO AY UUBUSIN

FIESTA, BIRTHDAY AT IBA'T-IBANG OKASYON
PARATING MAY HANDAAN, TIYAK MERON DIN PABAON
BALOT DITO, BALOT DOON KAHIT PA MAGHAPON
MAIHATID LAMANG SA TIYANG NAGHAHAMON

BAKIT TILA YATA WALA KANG KABUSUGAN?
HINDI MO NA INISIP ANG IYONG KALUSUGAN
SINASADYA MO PA NA IKA'Y MAGING BATUGAN
KATABAAN MO NGAYO'Y WALA NG MASISIDLAN

SA PAGDATING PA NG MAKABAGONG TEKNOLOHIYA
COMPUTER,PSP,ELEVATOR AT MARAMI PANG IBA
NA NAGING DAAN PA SA MGA NANANAMANTALA
AT PAGIGING TAMAD AY UNTI-UNTING LUMALALA NA

SANGA-SANGANG SAKIT NGAYO'Y IKA'Y NABABAGABAG
NGAYON AY NAGSISISI AT IKAW AY NAHAHABAG
SA IYONG SARILI SAPAGKAT IKA'Y LUMABAG
SA PAGKAIN NG SOBRA IKAW AY NABULAG

GABAY PANG KALUSUGAN SA PAGKAIN NG SAPAT
AY PATUNGO SA LANDASING NAAAYO'T NARARAPAT
ITAMA ANG DAAN SA MGA TAONG SALAT
SA SOBRANG PAGKAIN, SAKIT AY MAG-UUGAT

MAG SILBING ARAL NAWA ITO SAYO KAIBIGAN
NG HINDI MAUBOS SA GAMOT ANG IYONG PINUHUNAN
SUNDIN LAMANG ANG PAYO NA PARA SA KABUTIHAN
PASENSYA MO NGA LAMANG AY DAPAT NA HABAAN

NGAYONG ALAM MO NA ANG TAMANG PAMAMARAAN
IKAW NGAYO'Y MAG-KUSA, IBAHAGI ANG NALALAMAN
NG HINDI NA MAULIT ANG GANITONG MGA KARANASAN
AT NG MAKATULONG MAKABAWAS SA PROBLEMA NG BAYAN

I was convicted while I'm reading this Poem because I really love to eat. If we eat beyond our caloric intake for the day, it may destroy our body bit by bit. For some, eating is the way of life. “ I’ll eat what I like to eat because life is short”. Knowing the caloric value of what you’re eating is important for us not exceed on our daily caloric intake because if we do, we will regret it in the future.

foods Hard work, your life depends on it... i view my self as a hard working person, as an individual who has a good future a head of him. driven by my will to become successful, i just wanted to become someone for my self, and to do it for the glory of GOD. Being a nurse is a tough job. I don't know why I accepted that offer. To take up nursing in stead of doing what i like the most, playing basketball. God has a wonderful plan ahead of me. I trust him with all of my heart and every decision I make, I always consult Him... I know there is a reason why He made a way to give me this profession that I need to work on, becoming a Nurse. This profession needs a lot of guts, patients and hard work in dealing with your clients. I find my self as tool in helping people to cope up with their health needs, to direct them into living a healthy life. As a Diabetes Nurse Educator, everyday, I face a lot of clients suffering from the disease that they have, DIABETES. Diabetes mellitus is a disease that affects 9 million Filipinos today. 90% of them are type 2 diabetes. It’s a Non- communicable disease that each and every one of us can have. Yes it can be hereditary, but now, it can be acquired through lifestyle, the food that we eat, our laziness, the technologies that we have to day and stress.

According to World Health Organization, the Philippines is ranked no. 3 in the Western Pacific Region and in 2030, the Philippines will be ranked no. 9 in the whole world. In the US, every 21 seconds, Diabetes hits an American people. That is 4,320 new diabetics in 24 hours time. Diabetes awareness and lifestyle modification is the key to eliminate this threat to our lives. Early detection will help you decrease the risk of having complications such as Cardiovascular diseases, stroke, blindness, End stage Renal/ kidney disease, peripheral neuropathy and other macro and micro vascular complications. start to see a diabetologist and consult a diabetes nurse educator for counseling and health teachings. Let them guide you to live a life that is sweet.
